Flamenco Arabia, a production of the Canadian Arabic Orchestra, is an Arabic fusion of music blending the beautiful Spanish sounds of Andalusia with contemporary Arabic music. Flamenco Arabia consists of an enchanting guitar performance containing Arabic rhythms intertwined with Flamenco music and setting the stage for professional Flamenco dancers. As each note is sung in Arabic and Spanish, the brushstrokes of a masterpiece will come together as history reunites Arabs will their long gone past and presence in Andalusia.
The show is the brainchild of Syrian Flamenco guitarist and composer Tarek Ghriri. With over 17 years of experience in performing at concerts and festivals across the Levant and 8 years of teaching music, Tarek merges his passion for Flamenco music with his Arab origin in creating a unique blend of two musical worlds. Wherever Tarek goes, he always manages to attract only the finest artists to collaborate with, whether they are singers, dancers, or fellow musicians; all of whom share his vision of combining what seems distinct forms of music into harmonious musical creations.
Flamenco Arabia will be presented in partnership with The Aga Khan Museum’s annual Duende Flamenco Festival. This Festival celebrates the multidisciplinary nature of flamenco and the influence of a variety of cultures and forms, and its evolving expression. Representing the synergies arising from collaborations between the world’s three major religions, Duende, like flamenco itself, complements the Museum’s collection of artifacts from Spain 10th-16th centuries and represents a commitment to showcasing the best international talent alongside local and domestic artists pushing the boundaries of the form.
